Are you praying for Donald Trump?
It’s hard to ignore the recent wealth of commentary about our President’s impact on Christianity and our efforts to share the lifesaving good news of Jesus Christ across the world.
Remarkably missing in these argumentative debates however, are the written commands and promises of God himself. 1 Timothy 2:2 clearly states the need to “pray for those in authority” over us- and what about the promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14. “If my people who are called by MY name, will humble themselves and pray and seek MY face and turn from their wicked ways, then I WILL hear from heaven, and I WILL forgive their sin and heal their land.”
Have we become so consumed with our own attempts to sway the hearts of others, that we’ve forgotten this?
The massive divisiveness between people of common faith today is exhausting. Whether you are (mostly) enthusiastic and find yourself celebrating the current administration’s “victories” or the mere mention of the President’s name fills you with disgust, one thing is certain- God’s promises remain. He has been, is, and always will be in sovereign control of all that is happening around us, and when God says that HE WILL heal our land -IF we humble ourselves and pray, I believe He means it.
I’ve spent the last ten years traveling this country and leading a ministry of prayer and encouragement for our nation’s pastors and Kingdom leaders. I’ve witnessed the tremendous power of bold and desperate prayer when people seek the face of our Lord together. Because of that, I feel both qualified and compelled to ask for your support in this too -praying regularly, emphatically, even expectantly for our President- Donald J Trump….we all know he needs it- and we need it!
Can we simply unite in prayer for his character? Pray for Biblically based convictions and actions to rise above all else? Pray for his heart to reflect the heart of God- and his own understanding of what that truly means? Can we pray together for grace? As a Christian, will you pray for our commonalities to supersede our differences? There is so much we can be praying for – together, and it all matters. This is the way toward unity in the body of Christ. This is the most powerful way you and I can AND will make a difference.
If you’re willing to join me, and humbly ask God to do what only He can do – “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us,” then I invite you to share this with your friends and family and let’s trust God to do what He says He will do.
